Volunteer Kitchen Assistant

From washing up and tidying to preparing hospitality trolleys and serving refreshments, your support will make a real impact every day. Whether you're restocking snacks, helping with meal services, or keeping our Bistro and lounges spotless, your time and energy will help create a warm, welcoming environment for everyone. No experience needed – just a big heart and a willingness to help! Step into a rewarding role where every cup of tea and clean plate makes a difference.

This role will support our team to keep the busy kitchen in tip-top condition. You'll be helping with tasks such as washing up, sorting and tidying the kitchen area as well as preparing the hospitality trolleys needed for patients and those visiting our ward areas.

What you will be doing:

  • Ensuring the kitchen is always clean and tidy
  • Washing up, operating the dishwasher, cleaning surfaces
  • Sorting crockery, cutlery, and kitchen equipment
  • Assisting with hospitality requirements
  • Setting up trolley with refreshed water jugs to assist Volunteer Ward Support to take on the ward, (in the absence of ward support volunteer, assisting ward staff with drinks order)
  • Supporting kitchen staff with patients and staff meal services, keeping our Bistro tidy
  • Restocking and tidying the visitor lounge and refreshment counter
  • Removing kitchen waste and rubbish and taking to the refuge area
  • Adhering to robust Infection Prevention control measures

What skills do I need?

The skills you need:

  • Good communication skills
  • Good level of mobility – moving equipment, operating the dishwasher and extended time on your feet is a core part of this role
  • Someone who enjoys being part of a team
  • Being able to demonstrate strong emotional resilience (For patient facing roles)
  • Commitment to undertake any training required for the role including a mixture of face-to-face training and e-learning as required for the role
