Volunteer Community Engagement Officer

Africa Community in Surrey and Sussex

Our organisation is dedicated to educating, informing, connecting, and equipping African immigrants and people of African descent in Surrey and Sussex with the people and resources they need to foster a thriving community. We believe that by fostering a sense of belonging and community, we can break down cultural divides and promote a harmonious and prosperous society for all.


As a Community Engagement Officer, you will play a vital role in helping ACISS connect with diverse individuals and local community groups. Helping to build partnerships, and help ensure that our activities are inclusive, accessible, and responsive to the needs of the African community in Surrey and Sussex, particularly those who are vulnerable or isolated.


Key Responsibilities:


Support and engage with vulnerable individuals of African descent in the local community.

Provide appropriate signposting to services, support organisations, or authorities when needed.

Build and maintain relationships with local community groups, organisations, and stakeholders.

Represent ACISS at community meetings, events, and forums.

Gather feedback from community members to help shape ACISS programmes.

Champion ACISS’s mission of inclusion, empowerment, and representation.

What skills do I need?

Passionate about community development and diversity.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Confident engaging with people from a wide range of backgrounds.

Organised, reliable, and self-motivated.

Ability to work collaboratively and independently.

Ideally have experience in community outreach, organising, or public engagement.

Knowledge of the African diaspora and cultural issues.

Familiarity with local services in Surrey and/or Sussex
